Ridgeline Study Prompts

Psalm 132

Prayer and Preparation
Spend a few minutes in preparational prayer, then carefully read and reflect on the song of Psalm 132.

Study

Verses 1 through 7 outline David’s promise to God. Read 2 Samuel 7:1-16 and summarize David’s oath to God regarding his temple.

Verses 8-10 are a chorus of the anticipation of being in the temple and a longing expectance of God’s presence. In the original hearer’s mind, what was the context and meaning of this part of the song. And, what is the meaning of the text in our current context?

Verses 11-18 speak of God’s promise to David. This became a promise that the people of God held onto as well, especially while in exile. In a few sentences, summarize the content of these 8 verses.

Application
With our mouths we confess that God keeps his promises, but there are times when our hearts have a hard time truly believing this. Are there any areas of your life where you struggle to believe God’s promises? If so, write them down. Share your doubts or struggles with a spiritual partner so that you don’t walk this season of wondering alone.
