Psalm 130

Prayer and Preparation
As you prepare your heart and mind for study, pray that the Word of God might come alive to you personally as you reflect on the song of Psalm 130. After you spend some time in prayer, read the psalm through a few times, then reflect on the questions below.

Study

Verse one sets the context for the rest of the psalm. Without knowing the exact circumstances, what does this verse show about the psalmist’s condition as well as his mindset?

Verses 2 through 4 give us incredibly helpful insight into approaching God’s throne-room and making our requests known to Him. What can be learned or how can you be reminded about the relationship dynamic between God and His people?

What do trust and waiting look like in verses 5 and 6?

The psalm ends with exhortation. Why is exhortation fitting and helpful at the end of a psalm like Psalm 130?

Application
How does this psalm relate to holy week? How does it relate to your life and context today? In what ways can you call on the Lord, trusting that He will not condemn you, but instead answer you in a good and helpful way?
