Psalm 118

Prayer and Preparation

As we spend time with family and friends giving thanks this week, pray that God would use Psalm 118 to strengthen your faith and encourage your soul. Through prayer, ask God to prepare your heart and your mind for the study of His Word.

Study

Psalm 118 is a psalm of thanksgiving. In verses 1 through 4, what are the two general causes for worship?

Verses 5 through 18 give more specific examples of how God has been good and how His love has endured throughout their history. What are some of the ways God has shown Himself to be good in these verses?

Application

In verses 19 through 28 the psalmist gives praise and thanks in response to all that God has done. What ways can you specifically praise the Lord this week for all His goodness and for His faithful love that endures forever?

This psalm is an example of God’s people giving thanks collectively and publicly. How can you share with others what God has done for you?
