Ridgeline Study Prompts

Psalm 112

Prayer and Preparation

Psalm 112 is best understood when read alongside Psalm 111. Spend some time in prayer, preparing your heart for genuine study of the Word of God, then slowly and thoughtfully read Psalm 111 and 112. Ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you through the study of His Word.

Study

In Psalm 112:1, the psalmist calls the person who fears the Lord “blessed.” How are we to understand the idea of “fear the Lord”?

Psalm 112 is full of principles of life for the righteous person. They reflect the righteousness of God discussed in Psalm 111. In your own words, what are some of these principles that stand out?

Psalm 112 ends with principles of the wicked person (verse 10). Why do you think the psalmist ended the song with this verse? How does it help shape the rest of this psalm?

Application

Is there a principle in this psalm that is most encouraging or convicting? Why?

What is one takeaway from Psalm 112 that you can share with a spiritual partner? Write down the takeaway and then, before you get up from this study and get going on the rest of your day, send that spiritual partner a text and invite them into the conversation about what God is showing you.
