Psalm 106

Prayer and Preparation

Psalm 106 is one of the longest psalms we have studied so far. Don’t let its length overwhelm you. Spend some time preparing your heart and mind in prayer, then enter into your study time with intentionality. Remove any distractions that might hinder your focus and enjoy God’s presence as you study.

Study

In verses 6-12, the psalmist confesses the failures of the Israelites at the Red Sea. In what ways did the people of God sin in these verses?

In verses 13-33, the psalmist confessed the sins of his people in the wilderness. In what ways did the Israelites sin in these verses?

In verses 34-43, the psalmist once again confesses the sins of the Israelites, this time focusing on their sins as they conquered the land of Canaan. What were the sins listed in this section?

Application

Throughout Psalm 106 the author identifies with the failures of his ancestors and the sins of another generation. What can we learn from the psalmist in this example of humility and confession?
