Ridgeline Study Prompts

Psalm 102

Prayer and Preparation

As we have been learning from the psalmists, our relationship with the Lord is to be honest, and our posture should be one of trust and submission. Spend a few minutes humbly asking God to give you insight into your own heart and the discernment to know how to honestly deal with whatever He exposes. Then carefully and thoughtfully read Psalm 102.

Study

In verses 3-11 the psalmist is really honest about his feelings and outlook. Summarize his bleak evaluation of his circumstances in a few sentences. In what ways was he struggling?

Verses 12-17 show a shift in the author’s mood. What shaped his change of outlook?

Application

Hopefully you are learning, throughout our study of Psalms, the importance of honesty with God. Take whatever time is needed to write down your current state of mind. Think deeply and write specific ways you are struggling or discouraged. Or maybe there’s a deep sense of joy, relief, etc. Resist the temptation to write down general things. Be mindful and specific.

As we trust God, like the psalmist does in verses 12-17, praise is naturally woven into the situation. In what ways can you praise God in the midst of your feelings? In what ways can your trust in Him fuel your worship?
