Ridgeline Study Prompts

Psalm 96-98

Prayer and Preparation

As we study and abide in God’s Word this week, keep in mind that these psalms are liturgical songs of worship. Treat them as an invitation to enter into a time of worship, more than a study to finish.

Study

Each of these psalms go back and forth between the call to praise and the cause for praise. Write down the causes for praise that you notice in Psalm 96. Then summarize the overall cause for praise in the song.

Do the same exercise for Psalm 97. List the causes, then summarize the overall theme.

And once again, do the same exercise for Psalm 98.

Application

In what ways have you seen Christ as the King on the throne in your life? How has he brought stability, deliverance, vindication, etc.? What are things He has done, that cause us to praise Him, upon reflection?

Write down some of the ways you are still longing for Christ to make things right? What are things you are still waiting on God for? Write them down, trust that God is still at work and will restore the damage caused by sin. Then, in an act of faith, praise Him for His coming kingdom, and future answered prayer.
