Ridgeline Study Prompts
Psalms 55
Prayer and Preparation
In Psalm 55:22, David encourages the reader to “cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you.” If you are coming into this study with burdens and cares, take a minute to lay them down. Actually, identify the burdens of today and pray for the Lord’s sustaining grace in each of those situations.
Study
This psalm describes the difficulty of betrayal. Why does betrayal from a close friend hurt so much?
What are some of the ways that David shows God to be a faithful friend in this psalm?
Application
So many Christians carry the wounds of being hurt by close friends, often within the context of church? The honest processing that David displays in this psalm shows the value of acknowledging hurt and disappointment, and looking to God for healing and resolution. Do you have relationships that need healing? What can you give to the Lord in those situations, and how can you participate in the restorative work?
Have you deeply wounded a close friend and left it unresolved? How might you be an agent of peace and be used by God to bring healing and restoration? This will require a great deal of humility on your part but could be a wonderful opportunity to be used by God. Pray over your answer then write your answer down for accountability. Then, act as the Spirit leads.
