Ridgeline Study Prompts

Psalms 52

Prayer and Preparation

The study of God’s word is an opportunity to better know the mind of Christ. By processing God’s Word in our hearts and meditating on it throughout the week, we are creating space for the Lord to work and sanctify us. Look at your time in study this week as an invitation into intimacy with God, instead of a task that needs to be accomplished. Spend a few minutes in prayer and enjoy the process of sanctification.

Study

To understand the context of Psalm 52, read 1 Samuel 22. Write out a summary of the horrific events here.

It’s reasonable to have all kinds of questions after seeing good people suffer or seeing wicked people prosper. Summarize Psalm 52, verses 5-7, and describe how David processed this kind of situation?

How does David’s belief in God’s ability to vindicate bring hope to a situation like that in 1 Samuel 22?

Application
Is there an area of your life where you’ve experienced pain, suffering, or wickedness that has caused you to hold onto bitterness, resentment, a longing for revenge, etc.? How can this Psalm help you let go of that mindset, and let God be the one to vindicate? And here’s a challenging question: does even thinking about letting go of the grudge frustrate you? If so, why do you think it’s hard for you to let go? Why do you have a hard time letting God be the one to vindicate?
