Prayer and Preparation

Philippians 2 is a beautiful picture of what humble living can look like. Before you read the text spend time in prayer that the Holy Spirit would use the verses of chapter two to grow a Christ-like humility in you. After some time in prayer, read Philippians 2 slowly, carefully and thoughtfully.

Study

What stands out to you the most as you read about Christ’s humility in the first seven verses?

What does verse 12 mean by, “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”?

How does humility factor into Paul’s commands found in verses 14 though 18?

Application

Are there areas of your life that are driven by selfish ambition or conceit? In what ways can you count others more significant than yourself? What does it look like for you to lay down some of your own personal preferences or ambitions, for someone else’s betterment or success? Share what God lays on your heart with a trusted spiritual friend.
