Psalm 22
Prayer and Preparation
Psalm 22 is a prime example of raw honesty and David’s willingness to be transparent and honest with God. Before starting your time in study pray an honest prayer to God. Tell Him how you are doing, where you are spiritually, and what you hope for in your time in His presence. Then step into study with an expectation that in due time He will meet you in your abiding.
Study
If you divide Psalm 22 into two sections, verses 1-21 and verses 22-31, how would you summarize the content of each section?
Read Matthew 27:32-50 and John 19:16-37, then go back and read all of Psalm 22 again. What foreshadowing of the crucifixion of Christ do you see in David’s psalm?
Application
How does knowing that Jesus experienced first-hand sorrows and pain help you traverse the paths of suffering in your life? What perspective and encouragement can be found in Psalm 22?
