Psalm 20-21

Prayer and Preparation

Before reading Psalms 20 and 21, spend a few minutes in prayer. Pray that the poetry used to encourage the dispersed people of God in the Old Testament would be an encouragement to you as well.

Study & Application

Psalm 20 is a pre-battle poem that can be divided into different parts. Verses 1-5 are the worshipers speaking to King David, then the following verses are speaking about him. Summarize what they are saying to and about King David.

How does Psalm 20 apply to us today? What battles are we facing? Where do people generally put their trust? What does it actually look like to trust God in the battles you are facing?

Psalm 21 is thanksgiving to the Lord for His answering the prayers of Psalm 20. Summarize God’s response to the people’s prayers.

How does God’s response in Psalm 21 encourage you in light of what you wrote above (about trusting God in the battles you are facing)?

How do Psalms 20 and 21 grow your faith and embolden your walk with Christ?
