Ridgeline Study Prompts

Genesis 16

Prayer and Preparation
In Psalm 90:12, Moses asks God to teach him “to number his days”. What he was asking is for God to show him how to best live his days in light of all the attributes of God. When we begin to see God’s holiness, justice, kindness, patience, power, gentleness, wisdom…all of those things and more…it helps us gain perspective on our lives and serves as a motivation for us to live in ways that glorify God. As you study this week, specifically ask God to show you His goodness and then teach you to number your days in response.

Study
Read Genesis 16 and make notes of what the chapter says about the character and nature of God? What characteristics are directly stated, and what are the implied attributes?

What is God doing in this text and within the context of the larger story?

What does this text say about our identity? Are there things seen in the characters of this story that are true about humans by nature? Are there things in this text that are true about the people of God?

Application
In light of everything you’ve observed already, how does this chapter of the Genesis story change the way we live? How do you apply one thing from your study this week?
