Ridgeline Study Prompts
Genesis 11:27-32
Prayer and Preparation
In our next portion of study we finally meet someone who is willing to join God in His mission. But before we jump into the text, spend a few minutes pondering the words of James 1:22-25. “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”
Study
As you carefully read this short passage, draw out the family tree that is described as they are introduced.
Conduct a google search on “Iscah”. Dig around and see if you can come to a conclusion on if you believe she and Sarai are the same person or if they are different people? If Sarai and Iscah are the same person, what is the purpose or significance of Abram and Nahor marrying Haran’s daughters?
Is there anything to be learned about Abram in this introduction text? Can you unearth any character traits?
Application
Are you currently the kind of person who is poised and positioned to partner with God? Like we studied last week, it’s easy to be consumed with personal ambition. Have you made room to chase after something other than your own personal desires? If not, how might you allow yourself to be reminded of the Kingdom of God and the desire for His kingdom and will to come here on earth this week?
