Ridgeline Study Prompts

Galatians 2:1-14

Prayer and Preparation
Each day provides the opportunity for sanctification. Romans 12:2 reminds us that we are transformed by the renewal of our minds. Pray that the Holy Spirit would renew your mind as you study this week’s passage. Then thoughtfully and carefully read Galatians 2:1-14.

Study

Galatians 2:1 mentions Barnabas and Titus going with him to Jerusalem. What does this passage tell us about Titus, and what do we know about Barnabas from the book of Acts?

(Acts 4:36; 9:26-27; 11:19-26; 13:1-3)

Verses 2-5 explain the content of Paul’s conversation with the apostles in Jerusalem. In your own words summarize the debate. What was the result of the conversation?

This story is followed by the stumbling of Peter and Barnabas around the issue of legalism. What can be learned from this account of struggle by two pillars of the church?

Application
Most people are prone to fall on one side or the other of the legalism debate. Some are quick to make everything about rules, strict effort, and discipline. Others are prone to rely on grace, functioning in laxity and little discipline. Which side would you say you fall on and why?

What does this passage show us about the importance of walking in both discipline and grace?
