Ridgeline Study Prompts

Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8 and Matthew 5:13-16

Prayer and Preparation
This time of prayer and preparation is designed to help you be still and know. As we study the Great Commission of the church this week, spend a few minutes praying and quieting your heart as you prepare to know and understand God at a deeper level through studying His plan to reach the nations.

Study
Read Matthew 28:18-20. What is the importance of Jesus starting His commissioning by emphasizing His authority? How does this shape our understanding of the next two verses?

Read Acts 1:8. Just like the Matthew passage above, Jesus promises the coming of the Holy Spirit. Why is this such an important part of the Great Commission?

Read Matthew 5:13-16. In this portion of the Sermon on the Mount Jesus instructed His disciples to be salt and light. According to these verses, what does it mean to be salt and light?

Application
If the Great Commission is a command from Jesus, (the one who has all authority) why do you think Christians often treat it as a good suggestion or an optional directive?

How are you actively pursuing obedience in the Great Commission? If you haven’t been obedient in being salt and light to the corners of your world, how might you be able to step out in obedience in response to this study?
