Ridgeline Study Prompts
Acts 17:1-15
Prayer and Preparation
We have an ongoing invitation to dwell on the Word of God and learn the mind of God. Don’t rush yourthoughts as you open your Bible to read. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance as you meditate on this passage. Our goal in study each week is to be changed, as opposed to just filling our day with religious activity. Before you read this week’s passage, look back and refresh your memory of where we are in the story of Acts.
Study
Often in the book of Acts, it is the Jews who have the biggest problem with the Gospel. What do you think causes this resistance? Can you identify personally with any of those reasons for resistance?
Even after a poor reception in the synagogue in Thessalonica, Paul and his companions start their work in Berea, in the synagogue. Why do you think he starts his preaching in the synagogue whenever he arrives in a city that has one?
The Jews in Berea seemed much more welcoming of the Gospel. Luke mentions that they “received the word with all eagerness”? In your own words, what does it mean to receive the word with all eagerness? And how might you foster that attitude in your own life?
Application
Some of Paul’s greatest resistance in ministry was from within his people group (the Jews). Do you experience resistance from within your people group? How might you handle it wisely. What is the best way for you to continue to be salt and light when your people resist?
