Ridgeline Study Prompts

 Acts 8:26-40

Prayer and Preparation
Spend a moment in prayer. Since God tells us his word is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), ask Him to work in your heart and mind through this passage. Read Acts 8:26-40 several times – at least twice straight through, then a couple of times more slowly, pausing to reflect on words and phrases - and take notes.

Study

Look at Philip’s moving from one place to another in Acts 8:4-5, Acts 8:26-27, and Acts 8:39-40. Consider whatis different and what is the same (look for both the obvious and the subtle). What do you see?

I think last week Kim quoted C.S. Lewis - “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less.”List examples of humility we can see in this week’s passage.

Meditate on verse 31 and this quote - “Philip has to make a choice: will he stand alongside the chariot, providing information and answering questions about Scripture, work that comes easy for him, or will he involve himself in a spiritual quest with this stranger?” (Eugene Peterson) Note any thoughts.

Application
We see in Philip a follower of Christ both willing and able to meet someone where they are and, beginning with Scripture, explain the Gospel and its relevance to their story (v35). In most of your interactions with others, how ready do you feel to do this? Share your thoughts with a spiritual partner.
