Ridgeline Study Prompts
Acts 6:1-7
Prayer and Preparation
It’s always good to start Bible study with prayer. Pray that the Holy Spirit would teach you what you need to learn in these verses. Pray that the great Helper would help you apply these truths to your everyday life. Then, thoughtfully read Acts 6:1-7 with an open heart and mind.
Study
What appears to be the primary focus of the early church leaders in verses 2 and 4? And why are those things so important for leadership to focus on?
There seemed to be real issues arising within the church that needed to be addressed. In your own words, describe the problem found in the first seven verses of this chapter?
Any time more people are added to a community, new needs, obstacles, conflicts, and misunderstandings are sure to follow - that’s the nature of sinful people with finite minds and abilities being in relationship. As a Christian community we can choose to look at these things as opportunities to glorify Christ in our attitudes and our actions. Or we can choose not to. What opportunities can be found during the forming and growth of a church in our day and culture?
Application
Where might the Lord be leading you to step into opportunities to serve, to meet the needs of our church family, and to help carry the load of ministering in our community? Do you see any needs in our church family that you could step towards (e.g. sharing a meal, investing in another family’s children, prayer ministry, helping organize gatherings, or something else altogether)? Don’t give a quick answer on this one. Spend time in prayer, asking the Lord to help you see opportunities to meet real needs within your church family.
